Selected Reader Reviews

A brilliantly written novel of friendship, failure, and humor, "My Thirty-First Year (and Other Calamities)" by novelist Emily Wolf is a thoughtful, thought-provoking, recognizable, and fun read that will have a very special appeal to women readers ages 18-88.

Midwest Book Review

To really appreciate what I was reading: what the author was offering as a gift to other women on just the first page. Her courage that the author was not only offering a piece of herself in this very first chapter, but she had the courage to do so.

Emma Boone, Romance Daily News

While it starts heavy and contains some difficult parts through the book, I also found myself laughing out loud while reading.

This book was amazing! It really had me hooked and I could not put this down! Courtney W, Netgalley

The characters were well written and relatable. There were several funny moments that made me laugh out loud.

I applaud the author for attacking this subject matter, and showing an example of why a woman’s choice can mean so much.

Megan M, NetGalley

This book is all the things it promises to be and more, and I enjoyed every cringe filled “Why though?” moment just as much as I laughed at each calamitous event as they arose.

Yvonne W, NetGalley

I could not put this down! I loved this so much.

Hannah V-B, NetGalley

This is exactly the book that the world needs right now.

A must read! This was my favorite book of the year. I was hooked on the first page! It's witty, funny, real, and talks about some of the realities women face--abortion, divorce, family, self-discovery, and dating...Definitely a must read!

Gripping, insightful, fun read! Hooked from the first page, this witty, poignant novel is a must-read for anyone who has dated. It takes a story that could have been tragic and instead turns it into one of triumph with a lot of laughs along the way.

One of those books you don't want to end. Best book I've read all year! Zoe Greene's life needs to be a whole series! Emily Wolf is a writer to watch!

I loved this book! I am a mom of two teen daughters and although I'm well [past the age of thirty-one, I found the storyline engaging, the writing so witty at times and thought-provoking at others. I firmly believe that you do not have to be in your thirties to enjoy this book! And although the writer addresses the very challenging topic of abortion, she does it in a way that addresses all the nuances...[and] brings a lightness to the book through the protagonist's voice and wit. I really couldn't put the book down and when I did I wanted it to continue.

I loved this book. Emily Wolf's debut novel is a delightful read...I am waaaaay past my 31st year and yet [Zoe Greene's] struggles are ones many of us have in common. The writing is witty yet thoughtful. While I couldn't put it down, I was so sorry when it ended, even though Zoe's evolution in the book was one I celebrated. When does the sequel come out? I hope soon.

Couldn't put it down! This book was gripping from the very first page...With two young kids, I don't read nearly as much as I'd like. But I read this book in two days! I ignored all responsibilities and really enjoyed it. It is well-written, extremely personal and I recommend it highly.

My Thirty-First Year is a serious, light-hearted, authentic and raw and fun, and a great read

I completely enjoyed reading My Thirty-First Year, and not just because i felt as though the author was writing my life, though I did. She captures what it is like to be a human at this time as we continue growing, learning, and loving life as adults. I could not put this down.
